We have a flat upstairs which we let out, but our new router doesn't give coverage up there very well. I would like to boost the signal, but I would prefer to use an Ethernet port of the router rather than take up wifi bandwidth using a wifi repeater. I am looking for a device therefore that will sit near my existing router and plug into it, so that there is no need for electronics upstairs, but that will give a much stronger wifi signal than the router supplied by the service provider. Has anyone any recommendations please? Thanks.
You want this sort of thing:

Other variants are available with mains pass-through (if you are short of mains sockets). Search for Powerline Adapter. You plug an ethernet cable from your router to one adapter and another from the second adapter (anywhere on the same ring main) to your computer. Usually one ethernet cable is supplied.
Thanks, bhg481, but we are not on the same power supply, which is why I am looking for something that has a strong wifi signal. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a device from experience.
I personally haven't used one but I recommended one to my daughter when one of her sons was struggling to get a good wifi signal in his bedroom and she said it worked fine.
