Looking out the window , just saw a parcel delivery guy ( white van no logo - comes on the road often ) pulled up outside house over the road .

Gets a parcel out - goes to the house - Knocks on door - waits about a minute - drops parcel over the side gate to side of house .

Looks like it's been raining - looks like it going to rain again .

Ok

I had no idea he was going to toss it over the side entrance and it was a few seconds between him moving from the door to the side entrance

Anyway it hasn't rained so it should be ok , unless it contained something fragile
^ and, Bazile, it's not your job to be doing his job for him!
My 'safe place' is chucked over my garden fence if I'm not in.
No, but it's helpful for the neighbour.

^So what should I have done then ?
Bazile - nothing more you could have done on that occasion. If we happen to see a courier struggling to get a reply at a neighbour's house when we're out gardening, we'll offer to take it in, as the neighbours do for us.
you not leave a wee note for your neighbour
" Dear neighbour - it is pissing down outside and I have found your parcel a dry place....."
Most goods packed in cardboard boxes are placed in plastic bags inside the box so shouldn't get wet if it rains. If it's anything easily broken it should be marked "FRAGILE" and treated accordingly (but even then they usually have loads of bubble wrap etc. packing).
Baz. I was notified that my parcel had been delivered. It hadn't so I looked at my camera. I saw the delivery man throw two parcels over a neighbour's gate without even trying the door. I knew they were away for a few days, guessed one parcel was mine so I put a note through their door telling them where the parcels were.
Mine didn't suffer any damage. Their's did.
// Mine didn't suffer any damage. Their's did.//

I am surprised at this. The contents of the parcel if not wrapped in 'bubble wrap' will be inserted into a box full of 'womble poo'. This guarantees all round protection of the item being transported.
This has happened to me today!
I got an email to say my parcel had been delivered and with it was a picture of my parcel in someone's garden.
There were lots of plant pots and a gate which narrowed it down to 4 bungalows and I was just hoping it wasn't No2 as she has a 6ft high gate that is locked, but it was, and she wasn't in!
Then came the rain and it poured down.
I went back home and left a message on her answering machine, and when she got home, she brought my parcel around and it was wet through.
I'd ordered 2 large cushions from eBay, but they weren't wrapped in bubble wrap, just a black bin liner which was ripped, (probably when he lobbed it over her gate) and so of course the cushions were wet.
I've written to the seller on eBay in the hope he can complain to the company that delivered it as I can't get a number for them.
Bet you wish you hadn't mentioned that stinking parcel now, Bazile. ;)
Why on earth, spicerack? Some of us can share experiences.
Oughta be a law!

I'm surprised anybody orders anything any more if things are as bad as reported. Maybe y'all are just unlucky.
Some people are giving him a hard time, gness.

Guess I'm going to regret mentioning the bloody thing now. ;-(
